Moalboal is a coastal town on a peninsula in southwest Cebu, roughly a hundred kilometres from Cebu City along the Tanon Strait. It built its name on diving and snorkelling, and its signature draw needs no boat at all: a vast, shifting school of sardines that hangs in the shallows off Panagsama Beach, close enough to reach from shore. Just offshore, tiny Pescador Island is one of the best-known dive sites in the Philippines, its walls and caves circled by reef fish, turtles and, at times, larger visitors. Panagsama is the diving and backpacker heart of the area, a strip of dive shops and casual restaurants set on a rocky shore, while the softer sand of White Beach in Saavedra draws those after a more classic beach day. Moalboal also works as a launch point for the canyoneering and waterfall trips around Kawasan Falls in neighbouring Badian. Tourism now sits alongside fishing and farming as a mainstay of local life.

Moalboal lies in southwest Cebu, reachable by bus or van from Cebu City along the coastal road, a journey of a couple of hours or more depending on traffic. From the town centre it is a short tricycle ride down to Panagsama Beach and the diving area, and to White Beach in Saavedra.
