Panglao sits off the southwestern tip of Bohol, joined to the larger island by two short bridges and roughly twenty kilometres from the provincial capital, Tagbilaran. For many travellers it is the easiest gateway to Central Visayas, thanks to Bohol-Panglao International Airport, which opened on the island in 2018 and put white-sand beaches within a short drive of the arrivals hall. The best-known stretch is Alona Beach, a compact ribbon of palm-lined sand where resorts, dive shops and small restaurants sit almost on top of one another and boats set off at dawn for the reefs. Divers and snorkellers come for the marine sanctuaries around Balicasag Island, the sardine schools and turtles, and shallow reefs that drop away into deeper submarine cliffs. Beyond the water, Panglao works well as a base for day trips into Bohol proper, from the Chocolate Hills to the Loboc River.

How do I get to Panglao?
Most visitors fly into Bohol-Panglao International Airport, which sits on the island itself and connects to Manila, Cebu and other hubs. From the airport it is a short taxi or shuttle ride to Alona Beach and the coastal resorts. It is also possible to arrive by ferry into Tagbilaran and drive across the bridges to Panglao in around thirty to forty minutes.
