In summer the plateaus around the Sault and Valensole plains turn purple with lavender, buzzing with bees under Mont Ventoux. Vineyards produce the crisp rosés and reds that pair with the region's garlicky, sun-driven cooking. The famous mistral wind sweeps the sky a hard, clear blue that lured Cézanne and Van Gogh. When do the lavender fields bloom in Provence?
Lavender typically flowers from roughly late June to mid-July, with the Valensole plateau and the higher Sault area often peaking slightly later into July. Timing shifts each year with the weather, so if lavender is your main goal, keep your dates flexible and check locally before you travel.
Do I need a car in Provence?
