Restaurants, cafes and bakeries in Madrid

Trattoria Fati serves Italian food in a former mustard factory in Mülheim-Saarn. The old industrial building gives the restaurant a particular local setting, while its menu follows Italian classics and seasonal ingredients. In addition to the regular selection, special dishes are displayed on large slate boards, so it is worth looking at those before deciding what to order. Pizza is highlighted for the lunch period, and the restaurant also offers its food to take away. That makes the address useful for different sorts of day: a planned meal in the dining room, a lunchtime pizza stop or a collection order for a quieter evening elsewhere. Ask which dishes are being offered when you call, especially if you are interested in a seasonal recommendation from the boards. In warmer months, the garden terrace opens in good weather. Flowers and herbs are part of the outdoor setting, providing a different atmosphere from the rooms inside the old factory. If you prefer to eat outdoors, check that the terrace is operating on your chosen day instead of assuming that an indoor table booking guarantees a garden place. The postal address is 20 Quellenstraße, but the entrance to the restaurant's own car park is reached from Straßburger Allee. Service is split between lunch and evening from Tuesday to Friday, with Saturday opening later and Sunday running from noon. Telephone the restaurant directly to confirm your visit or takeaway collection.

La Cantina is an Italian restaurant on Prinzeß-Luise-Straße with an unusually broad pasta selection. Homemade linguine, tagliatelle, ravioli and cannelloni are prominent, alongside pizza, antipasti, fish and meat dishes. It is a useful choice when one person wants a simple Italian classic and another prefers a more elaborate combination without changing restaurants. The pasta menu ranges from linguine with garlic, chilli and olive oil to ravioli with goat's cheese and figs in sage butter. Seafood combinations, salmon-filled ravioli and spinach-and-ricotta cannelloni provide other directions. A separate special card brings additional ideas and seasonal ingredients, so check what is available when you arrive rather than relying on a particular special throughout the year. Pizza includes familiar Margherita and ham-and-mushroom options as well as combinations such as pear with Gorgonzola or prawns with rocket. Children have their own pizza, pasta and small schnitzel choices. Desserts include homemade tiramisu, panna cotta and zabaglione, allowing the meal to finish in a recognisably Italian style. Find La Cantina at 189 Prinzeß-Luise-Straße. The published timetable starts at 16:00 from Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch service from noon on Sundays and public holidays; Monday is closed. Telephone or email ahead for current availability and discuss allergies or ingredient questions directly with the restaurant before choosing from the larger menu.
