Berggasthaus Ruhesitz

Brülisau · Seating indoors · Seating outdoors

Rossbergstrasse 27, 9058 Brülisau

+41717991167

Berggasthaus Ruhesitz stands above Brülisau in the Appenzeller hills, combining a mountain restaurant with rooms for overnight guests. Food is served in a cosy dining room and on a terrace overlooking the surrounding landscape. The kitchen focuses on traditional Appenzeller dishes, with a seasonal menu that also includes salad plates, vegetable plates and yoghurt cups. That gives visitors a choice between regional specialities and something lighter after the climb. Reaching the house is part of the outing: the inn is accessible only on foot. The direct walking route starts in Brülisau, where visitors can leave a car near the church. Another approach uses the Hoher Kasten cable car followed by a descent on foot. For a longer route, the Alp Sigel cable car leads to a walk via Berggasthaus Plattenbödeli. Public transport travellers can take the train to Weissbad and continue by postbus to Brülisau before beginning their walk. The inn also has double and family rooms, including rooms furnished in Swiss stone pine, for guests who want to stay in the mountains. Music is another part of its character. Its programme has included the Soller Stobete, bringing together dancing, Appenzeller music and yodelling. The house also welcomes the Pfingstmontag musicians, whose gathering centres on cheerful music and dancing. These events connect a visit with local musical traditions as well as the landscape and cooking.

Restaurant du Lac de Carouge

Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny · French · Fish and seafood · Cakes and pastries

648 allée du Lac, 73250 Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny

+33480470567

Le Carouge sits beside the lake of the same name at the Carouge leisure area in Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny. Water and mountain views shape the setting, with a large shaded terrace giving the restaurant much of its outdoor character. The kitchen describes its approach as traditional French cooking made in house with local and seasonal produce. Its published examples include perch fillets and frog legs, while the autumn and winter presentation gives particular attention to frog legs prepared by advance order. A sommelier selects the wines to accompany the food, making the cellar another part of the restaurant's identity. There is also a lighter side to a visit, with drinks, pastries and crêpes available alongside the restaurant offer. This makes the address relevant for a lakeside pause as well as a full meal. The local tourism office describes a restaurant section and a separate snack chalet, with French songs and strings of lights contributing to a guinguette atmosphere. Its account also mentions mussels, homemade burgers and artisan ice cream. Groups can arrange a meal here, and the restaurant explicitly welcomes reservations for parties of ten or more. Birthdays, company gatherings and meals with friends are among the occasions it hosts. The entire restaurant can be booked for a private event by arrangement. For visitors staying nearby, the appeal is the combination of a proper meal, an outdoor setting and the lake immediately beside the leisure area. Reservations and event arrangements are handled directly with the restaurant by telephone.

Restaurant Ô & Cimes

Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny · French · Lunch · Dinner

760 avenue Gaby Menaldo, 73250 Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny

+33479659994

Mon–Sun 12:00–14:00, 19:00–21:00

Ô & Cimes combines a family restaurant, a bar and a small hotel on avenue Gaby Menaldo in Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny. The house describes itself as independent and family run, and its food brings together two traditions: French cooking and Moroccan specialties. Homemade couscous is one of the central dishes, presented as something to share with family or friends. There is also a royal couscous, whose precise composition and availability are discussed when booking. Pastillas offer another route into the Moroccan side of the kitchen. The restaurant names both chicken and fish versions and encourages guests to ask about them while arranging their meal. Traditional French dishes remain part of the offer alongside these specialties, so the restaurant's identity rests on the combination rather than a single national style. The same family approach carries into arrangements for larger parties. Guests planning a meal with relatives, friends or another group can contact the team with their date and number of participants to discuss the possibilities. A bar and terrace provide space for coffee or a drink before or after eating. The restaurant welcomes people coming for a meal as well as travelers staying in the hotel's seventeen rooms. Free parking is available on site, and table reservations are made directly by telephone. The municipality identifies the operators as Mr. and Mrs. Elhousny and lists the property as a hotel, restaurant and bar. For a nearby holiday stay, it offers a straightforward way to combine familiar French food with a Moroccan dish arranged directly with the family.

The house has been in family ownership for more than a century, and its restaurant combines Holstein specialties with a broad selection of familiar regional dishes. Guests eat in the traditional dining room or the bright conservatory, while a summer terrace provides an outdoor setting. The menu gives fish a substantial place. Choices include matjes with apple and onion cream sauce, whole fried plaice with bacon and cucumber salad, and pannfisch served over fried potatoes with mustard sauce. Homemade labskaus arrives with eggs, beetroot, pickled cucumber and matjes. A mixed plate brings together herring, jellied pork and roast beef, offering several northern German flavors in one meal. La Table d'Auré

Chamousset · French · Fish and seafood · Lunch

40 impasse de la Gare, 73390 Chamousset

+33479364206

La Table d'Auré is the restaurant of a hotel in Chamousset, at the meeting of the Tarentaise, Maurienne and Val Gelon valleys. Mallory and Aurélien Moutard run the house, bringing their hospitality backgrounds to a kitchen centered on food prepared in house from fresh ingredients. They work with local producers and choose products according to the season. The setting includes three restaurant rooms and a terrace beside a park of about four thousand square meters. The tourism office describes the grounds as bordered by a small river, giving the address a quieter outdoor dimension. The published menu shows a substantial French repertoire. Starters include game pie with Périgord sauce, eggs in red wine sauce and foie gras with Espelette pepper. Fish choices include Lake Geneva perch prepared meunière and a market fish dish with vegetables. Among the meat dishes are slowly cooked black pork from Pralognan, game stewed with Mondeuse wine, and veal kidneys with Madeira sauce. Larger dishes for sharing include lamb shoulder and beef, while cheese and desserts provide several ways to finish. Tarte Tatin, chocolate cake and roasted figs with blueberries appear among the sweet options. Wine is an important part of the house, with more than a hundred references from across France, a substantial Savoy selection and a choice of Chartreuse. The restaurant also accommodates business meals and groups, with a seminar room equipped for presentations. Its combination of seasonal cooking, several dining spaces and garden surroundings makes it a practical address for both individual meals and planned gatherings.

Le Repère

Bourgneuf · Pizza · French · Burgers

17 route de la Maurienne, 73390 Bourgneuf

+33479337405

Le Repère is a small restaurant on route de la Maurienne in Bourgneuf, opened in November 2023. The kitchen follows a traditional French brasserie approach, with food made in house and an emphasis on nearby producers. The team keeps the menu deliberately short and identifies its suppliers on the menu, making the origin of the ingredients part of the meal. Burgers feature in the restaurant's own account of its cooking, while pizza has a separate place in the offer. A changing daily menu provides another way to eat here. The owners describe their aim as serving generous food they enjoy cooking and giving the people already at the table time to enjoy themselves. That preference for a manageable room carries through to the setting: there is an indoor dining space and outdoor seating for meals in suitable weather. The restaurant can also be booked privately for birthdays, baptisms and other gatherings. Anyone organizing a group meal is asked to contact the team directly to discuss the event. The tourism office confirms private hire, lunch and dinner service, and evening entertainment as parts of the restaurant's activity. It also lists English and French as spoken languages and welcomes guests accompanied by pets. Card payments, cash, meal vouchers and contactless payments are accepted according to the same official listing. Reservations are handled directly with the restaurant. For visitors based around Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny, the appeal is a compact village brasserie with a clear connection to its suppliers and the possibility of arranging a more personal group occasion.

Elbelandhaus

Magdeburg · German home cooking · Fish and seafood · Cakes and pastries

Benediktinerstraße 6, 39104 Magdeburg

+49 391 4006770

Elbelandhaus stands beside the Elbe in the Klosterbergegarten, with views towards Magdeburg Cathedral and the Sternbrücke. Both the dining room and the terrace look out towards the city skyline, so the river landscape forms a substantial part of a visit. The restaurant has welcomed guests since 2007 and combines a regular dining offer with private celebrations and special meal arrangements. The kitchen's range includes pasta, fish and game, with seasonal changes shaping the selection. German dishes sit alongside international influences, and the restaurant also announces vegetarian and vegan additions as part of its evolving menu. This breadth makes the house suitable for visitors who want a full meal while spending time along the river, as well as groups whose preferences differ. Desserts, ice cream dishes and cakes provide a separate reason to stop. The cake selection comes from the house baker, while the dessert offer extends beyond a simple final course to dedicated ice cream combinations. Guests can settle inside or use the outdoor setting when conditions allow. Elbelandhaus also arranges candlelit dinners, brunch and events tailored to an individual occasion. Weddings, significant birthdays and company celebrations can be organised around a buffet, a set menu or coffee and cake, with food and decoration planned together. Its reservation form accepts both table and event enquiries, and telephone contact is available for more immediate arrangements. The combination of river views, a park setting and a broad kitchen makes it an appealing pause between walking and sightseeing in Magdeburg.

Dom-König

Danzstraße 13, 39104 Magdeburg

+49 391 99003350

Dom-König stands on Danzstraße beside Magdeburg's cathedral district, close to the Elbe. Its identity brings together a restaurant and a substantial beer selection, with more than a dozen varieties presented by the house. The setting makes it a convenient place to combine a meal with exploring the area around the cathedral. A separate lunch menu complements the main selection, and tables can be reserved. The food moves between familiar hearty dishes and lighter starters. Tomato soup comes with crème fraîche and croutons, while the pumpkin soup combines Hokkaido pumpkin with ginger, coconut milk and chilli. Bruschetta uses toasted ciabatta, tomatoes, garlic, pesto and Grana Padano. Caramelised goat cheese is paired with a plum and orange chutney and mixed leaves. Flammkuchen offers another smaller option, with either a tomato, feta and olive topping or red onions and ham. For a substantial main course, the menu includes beef cheeks braised in dark beer sauce with mashed potatoes and root vegetables. Salmon arrives with rösti, creamed savoy cabbage and pomegranate. Roast beef Stroganoff and a mushroom version share accompaniments of hazelnut spätzle, gherkins and red onions. There are also vegetable filled Maultaschen and chicken pasta. Families have a dedicated children's section, including fish fingers, pasta and a small pork schnitzel, and can ask for a drawing box. Warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream rounds out the meal. Together, the menu and beer selection give the restaurant an approachable focus for an unhurried stop in central Magdeburg.

Breiter Weg 8a, 39104 Magdeburg

Café Alt Magdeburg sits in the Green Citadel on Breiter Weg, combining a setting in one of Magdeburg's distinctive buildings with an interior inspired by the older city. Homemade cakes and tray bakes are central to its offer, alongside breakfast, savoury dishes and ice cream desserts. The changing cake selection gives visitors a reason to look at the counter before choosing something from the broader menu. Breakfast ranges from a croissant and bread roll with butter, honey, regional jam and fruit to scrambled eggs with herbs and tomatoes or bacon and leek. The Otto und Editha breakfast is designed for two, bringing together bread rolls, cold cuts, cheese, smoked salmon, horseradish, jam and fruit. A vegetarian version of the Klosterfrühstück is also listed, and a muesli breakfast offers another starting point. Savoury choices include soljanka, potato soup, mixed salads and omelettes with vegetables or goat cheese. Waffles take a different direction with toppings such as smoked salmon or savoury meat ragout. Baked potatoes come with chicken, salmon or soused herring, while the sweet side includes waffles dusted with icing sugar. The ice cream selection ranges from raspberry sorbet with berries to combinations of chocolate, vanilla, cherries and cream. The house also prepares celebrations such as birthdays and company gatherings, either in the café or at a customer's home. Reservations are accepted by telephone, and dishes are available to take away. It is a flexible stop for visitors seeking cake and coffee or a more substantial café meal.

Restaurant Hoflieferant

Magdeburg · German home cooking · Fish and seafood · Vegan

Fürstenwall 3b, 39104 Magdeburg

+49 391 58282441

Hoflieferant occupies a garden setting below Magdeburg Cathedral, between the old town and the Elbe. Its summer terrace sits beneath mature trees at the Fürstenwall, giving the restaurant a setting closely tied to this historic corner of the city. The kitchen combines German cooking with international influences and builds its changing menu around seasonal produce from regional suppliers. Older vegetable varieties and less familiar cuts of meat are part of that approach, alongside dishes for guests who eat vegan food. The autumn menu illustrates the range particularly clearly. Roasted pumpkin is paired with goat cheese from Glinde, capers and hazelnuts, while baked Jerusalem artichoke comes with smoky barbecue aioli and savoy cabbage salad. A pumpkin soup uses pumpkin kimchi for another layer of flavour. Among the main courses are homemade chard dumplings with goat cheese, beetroot cream, Brussels sprouts and apple, as well as blue potatoes with fermented autumn vegetables. Fish, chicken and wild boar provide alternatives to the vegetable dishes. Desserts continue the seasonal theme with warm plum cake and spiced crumble, or a vegan carrot ice cream served with walnut liqueur and an almond cake. There is also a separate selection for children. The restaurant hosts weddings, birthdays, family gatherings and company celebrations, and takes table reservations. For travellers exploring the cathedral district, it offers a meal rooted in the surrounding region, with enough variation across the menu to suit a group with different preferences.

Mon–Fri 12:00–20:30; Sat 12:00–21:30; Sun 12:00–20:30

Kartoffelspeicher builds its menu around baked potatoes at An der Obertrave 6 in Lübeck. The restaurant is run by Jan Stobbe and Muhammad Fahad, and its cooking brings together German, European and international influences. Rather than treating the potato simply as a side dish, the menu gives it the central role and offers several distinct groups of preparations. Vegetarian baked potatoes form an especially broad section. Named choices include Toscana, Popeye, Aphrodite, La Patata, Ali Baba and Geisser Herdöpfel. The meat section takes a different direction with Tandoori Chicken, Obelix, Tropicana and Turkish Delight. Fish appears in another section, with Tonno and Surf'n Turf among the named options. The range allows diners to compare vegetable, meat and fish preparations within the restaurant's focused potato theme. Vegan and gluten free options are also part of the offer, alongside vegetarian dishes. The restaurant presents itself as a place for lunch, dinner or drinks, and describes a selection extending from starters through to dessert. Its international approach is reflected in the variety of dish names and the separate menu sections, giving the same main ingredient several different culinary directions. Tables are reserved by telephone, with the restaurant handling booking requests directly. This straightforward arrangement suits guests who want to contact the people at the venue before their visit. For a meal centred on baked potatoes, Kartoffelspeicher provides a clearly defined alternative to a broad, conventional restaurant menu, with plant based choices as well as meat and fish.

Brauberger zu Lübeck

Lübeck · German home cooking · Fish and seafood · Vegetarian

Alfstraße 36, 23552 Lübeck

+49 451 71444

Brauberger zu Lübeck brings a working brewery and a traditional restaurant together on Alfstraße in the old town. Copper brewing equipment occupies the dining room, while the protected Gambrinus cellar preserves a much older layer of the building. The house dates its Romanesque cellar to 1225. Guests can sit on the brewing deck, on the gallery, downstairs in the cellar or outside in the beer garden. These different spaces give the restaurant several distinct settings within the same address. The brewery makes an unfiltered Zwickel beer alongside Oceanflower, a dry hopped pilsner, Revenge India Pale Ale and Baltic Dutchman, a wheat beer flavored with coriander seed and dried orange peel. The kitchen follows the substantial tradition of German brewery food. Its Brauerschmaus combines roast pork, smoked pork loin and sausage with fried Holstein potatoes and sauerkraut. Schnitzels come in several preparations, including a version breaded with brewing malt. Other dishes include grilled pork knuckle and veal meatballs with caper sauce, mashed potatoes and beetroot salad. Fish choices include pollock with mustard sauce, a mixed fish platter and herring with fried potatoes. There are also explicitly vegetarian and vegan dishes, including vegetable lasagna and chili without meat. Smaller appetites can choose soup, salads or gratinated goat cheese with beetroot, rocket and pine nuts. A separate children's section offers schnitzel, pollock and chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Desserts include red berry compote, apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn. For parties of six or more, the team offers meal arrangements discussed directly with the restaurant.

Restaurant Wullenwever

Lübeck · Mediterranean · Fish and seafood · Vegetarian

Beckergrube 71, 23552 Lübeck

+49 451 704333

Wullenwever is Roy Petermann's restaurant in a merchant's house dating from 1585 on Beckergrube. The interior and sheltered courtyard provide two different settings for the same approach to cooking: light, modern dishes with regional roots and Mediterranean and maritime influences. Canvas covers the courtyard, which the restaurant describes as available for much of the year. Menus change every three weeks, allowing the kitchen to shift its emphasis with the season. The selection combines fish, shellfish, meat and vegetables rather than following a single ingredient throughout. One published menu pairs warm smoked pepper salmon with pumpkin, langoustine with carrot, orange and tarragon, and a lighter interpretation of borscht. Main courses include halibut with spinach and mustard Champagne beurre blanc or grilled onglet with autumn vegetables and a red wine and shallot jus. An apple dessert or a selection of matured cheeses completes that sequence. Guests can choose a three course selection or the full five course menu. A seven course surprise menu is available for the whole table by advance order, and a vegetarian menu can also be ordered ahead. Wine receives similarly close attention. The cellar includes German Riesling, Chardonnay and red wines from Europe and overseas, with a substantial selection in half bottles. Roy and Manuela Petermann advise on a complete pairing or an individual glass according to the meal and personal taste. Direct reservations allow guests to discuss their plans with the restaurant, including arrangements for a larger group.

Schiffergesellschaft

Lübeck · German home cooking · Seating indoors · Seating outdoors

Breite Straße 2, 23552 Lübeck

+49 451 76776

Schiffergesellschaft brings Lübeck's seafaring past into a restaurant on Breite Straße. Its former guildhall was a meeting place for captains and merchants, and the historic hall still gives the meal its distinctive setting. Long communal benches and suspended ship models make the maritime connection tangible. Alongside the main hall are smaller rooms, including the Hanse-Lübeck-Zimmer, Kapitäns-Zimmer and Kapitäns-Salon, offering different settings within the same historic house. The kitchen combines northern German classics with international dishes and contemporary creations. Seasonal ingredients and local purchasing are central to its approach, so the cooking looks beyond the building's history while retaining a regional foundation. Wines and spirits form part of the drinks selection. The restaurant welcomes business diners, couples, local families and larger parties, continuing the building's longstanding role as a place to gather. Outdoors, the planted courtyard garden provides another place to sit. Known as the Sonnendeck, it offers a quieter setting away from the large hall. Company celebrations, family occasions and business meals are also part of the restaurant's offer, with reservations available by telephone or email. The society behind the house began as the Saint Nicholas Brotherhood in 1401. It acquired and expanded the premises during the sixteenth century, and the hall emerged from those building works. After compulsory guild membership ended in 1866, parts of the house were opened to the public as a restaurant. That transition explains the unusual combination visitors encounter today: a working dining room inside a building whose identity remains closely bound to Lübeck's sailors.

Johanna Berger – Das Restaurant

Lübeck · Fish and seafood · Vegetarian · Seating indoors

Dr.-Julius-Leber-Str. 69, 23552 Lübeck

+49 451 58696890

Johanna Berger's restaurant occupies an old town address on Dr.-Julius-Leber-Straße, with dining rooms inside the historic building and seating in a quiet courtyard. Berger is both the owner and a chef, and her cooking draws on experience gained in southern France, London, the North Sea region and Lübeck. She has been serving food in her namesake restaurant since 2015. Jamel Jerome Poerschke joined the kitchen in May 2024, bringing a particular interest in reinterpreting familiar regional cooking. Their shared approach gives guests a choice between an à la carte meal and a surprise menu shaped by the two cooks' different backgrounds. Seasonal ingredients and preparations made in the kitchen guide the selection. The à la carte offering includes tomatoes with burrata and olive oil, beef carpaccio with truffle mayonnaise and caviar, and ceviche with pickled onion and sesame. Vegetarian main courses include saffron risotto with fennel and roasted pepper, alongside a vegetable dish called Waldspaziergang, served with mushroom jus. Fish appears both as a changing catch and as pikeperch accompanied by saffron risotto and fennel. Meat choices include a changing cut and beef tenderloin with popcorn and jus. Dessert can be followed or replaced by a trio of cheeses with jelly and dark bread. The menu varies with what suppliers can provide, so individual dishes may change. Wine pairings accompany the surprise menus, while the drinks selection also includes a house cocktail. Tables can be reserved online, by phone or by email. The team also welcomes enquiries about private events, rooms and specially arranged menus.

Restaurant Die Kirche

Magdeburg · Vegetarian · Breakfast · Seating outdoors

Alt Prester 86, 39114 Magdeburg

+49 391 5353352

Restaurant Die Kirche occupies a former church in Magdeburg's Prester district. The building dates from 1832, when it replaced an older medieval church, and its tower was modelled on those of Magdeburg Cathedral. Its later history is unusually varied: religious use ended in 1983, the building served as a church district works depot, and a conversion in 1997 brought architecture, art and gastronomy together. Katrin and Jens Rieffenberg have run the restaurant since 2007. The dining offer combines seasonal cooking, creative dishes and familiar classics. The house presents a selection spanning starters, meat, pasta and vegetarian dishes, alongside a separate children's menu. For a more structured occasion, it offers menus and candlelit dinners. The former church interior gives these meals a setting with a history that remains part of the restaurant's character. Brunch is another part of the programme, offered on selected Sundays. It brings together a breakfast buffet of homemade specialities, warm dishes, desserts and coffee served in pots. The garden and terrace provide outdoor space, although brunch reservations do not extend to those areas. Private celebrations are a substantial part of the restaurant's work. Weddings, drinks receptions, birthdays, club outings, family occasions and company events can be arranged with the team. There are also themed evenings and murder mystery dinners. Table requests can be made through the reservation form, with telephone contact available for shorter notice arrangements. This combination of an adapted historic building, seasonal food and planned events gives Die Kirche a distinct identity beyond an ordinary neighbourhood dining room.

The wine list stays close to home too, with labels from the Aosta Valley and Piedmont. In winter the chalet sits in deep snow and is reached on skis during the day. For dinner a snowcat picks guests up and brings them back down again, which turns an evening meal into a small expedition. In summer it is a walk across green pastures.

Taipan Mering is an Asian restaurant on Gaußring, with Chinese, Japanese and Mongolian cooking brought together in one dining room. The Mongolian grill is a central part of the offer: meat and fish are freshly fried or flambéed, giving the meal a focus on food prepared at the grill alongside the wider buffet selection. Guests can explore several culinary traditions during the same visit, choosing dishes from the buffet or ordering from the à la carte menu. The restaurant also serves a lunch selection. Its approach suits diners who enjoy putting together their own combination of Asian specialties, as well as those who prefer to choose an individual dish. Fish and meat are both part of the range, and the kitchen presents its food around traditional recipes from the three cuisines. Families are explicitly welcomed, with special menus for children and a playground for younger guests. The business is run by Wei Liu and is located at Gaußring 20 in Mering. Tables can be reserved directly by telephone, including for an evening together with friends. The restaurant asks diners to make reservations by phone. A separate contact channel is available for general messages and questions. This combination of a buffet, cooking at the Mongolian grill and à la carte ordering gives a group several ways to approach a meal while sharing the same restaurant table.

Andechser in Mering stands on the historic market square, where the Baumüller family runs a Bavarian inn with several distinct rooms and a terrace for the warmer months. Christian Baumüller is both landlord and head chef. His cooking draws on traditional recipes while making room for contemporary interpretations and lighter dishes in a bistro style. Fresh ingredients are central to the kitchen, with regional produce preferred wherever possible. His membership in the association of speciality innkeepers in the Wittelsbacher Land reflects that connection to the surrounding agricultural area. Beer comes from the monastery brewery at Andechs, and the house also serves spirits from the monastery hill. The setting offers several ways to spend a meal, from a small gathering in a traditional room to a larger celebration upstairs. The Marktstube seats thirty-five people, the Wirtsstube twenty-five, and the gallery can accommodate up to one hundred. Outside, the beer garden terrace gives guests a place to sit in summer. Family occasions are an established part of the business, including baptisms, first communions, weddings and milestone birthdays. The team helps arrange individual menus, matching wines, printed menu cards and coordinated table decorations. For company anniversaries and other gatherings, food can take the form of a buffet, a sequence of courses or canapés, with both rustic and more elaborate approaches available by arrangement. Regular table reservations are taken by telephone. The result is a local inn whose character comes as much from its rooms and family hospitality as from its Bavarian cooking.

Münchener Straße 29, 86415 Mering

+49 8233 7478544

Restaurant Schlosserwirt occupies a longstanding inn on Münchener Straße in Mering, now connected to the family's hotel and boarding house. The building began as an inn in 1901, and the Bader family took it over in 1928. A butcher's shop and a neighbouring cinema later became part of its story; the cinema site was eventually redeveloped into the hotel and linked to the original Schlosserwirt. Today the restaurant combines that history with a modern approach to Bavarian cooking. The kitchen works with a compact menu that changes, using fresh regional and seasonal ingredients and placing particular emphasis on sustainability. Bavarian classics are reinterpreted rather than treated as a fixed list of dishes. A carefully chosen wine selection accompanies the food. Breakfast is also part of the restaurant's identity, and guests can visit without staying overnight in the hotel. Sweet and savoury choices feature in the breakfast buffet, while the restaurant also presents a table brunch under the name Gläschenliebe. Its evening programme includes sociable Stammtisch meals with cordon bleu for sharing and other favourite dishes. Selected events offer a Bavarian buffet with a large salad bar. Private celebrations and catering are arranged individually, either within the house or at an outside venue. The hotel also has seminar facilities, making the restaurant part of a broader setting for business gatherings and family occasions. For visitors, the appeal lies in the combination of an established Mering address, a family history spanning generations and a kitchen that keeps adapting its regional foundations.

The outdoor areas offer a choice between sunshine and shelter, while a separate room can accommodate up to forty guests. A children's play area is part of the garden setting, and the restaurant also caters for private celebrations and wedding receptions. The menu starts with familiar Greek appetisers: tzatziki, tarama, spicy sheep's cheese spread, baked aubergines and courgettes, and peppers filled with cheese and garlic. A mixed grilled starter plate combines halloumi with vegetables; a vegan version is available on request with the cheese and stuffed peppers omitted. Main courses include homemade gyros, souvlaki skewers, bifteki filled with tomato and cheese, and mixed grill combinations. Oven dishes range from moussaka with aubergines, potatoes, minced pork and béchamel to lamb shank served with Greek pasta or beans. Seafood choices include calamari, sardines, salmon and mixed fish plates. Vegetarian dishes and specifically described vegan adaptations give guests alternatives beyond the grill, including Greek pasta with tomato sauce and vegetables prepared without cheese or cream. A children's menu offers smaller dishes such as gyros, pasta and fish fingers. Tables can be reserved by telephone, and food can also be ordered for collection. The combination of several seating areas and a menu spanning small plates, grilled dishes and oven cooking makes Delphi suitable for both a straightforward meal and a gathering with a larger party.

Da Daniele is a pizzeria and ristorante on Luitpoldstraße in Mering, with a Mediterranean interior and an emphasis on freshly prepared homemade food. The restaurant describes a family atmosphere and pairs its cooking with a selection of wines. Pizza and pasta anchor the menu, but the choice extends to starters, soups, salads, fish, meat and desserts, allowing a table to put together anything from a single main course to a longer Italian meal. Pizzas come in two sizes, with familiar combinations such as margherita, mushroom, ham and cheese, and quattro stagioni with mushrooms, artichokes and olives. The pasta selection is particularly broad. Spaghetti can be ordered with tomato and basil, garlic and chilli, seafood, or a carbonara sauce made here with bacon, egg and cream. Penne include a mushroom and gorgonzola cream version and a spicy tomato preparation. Among the ribbon pastas are tagliatelle with porcini and rocket, salmon with vodka and tomato cream, and the house Daniele combination of prawns, tuna and cherry tomatoes. Gnocchi come with spinach and gorgonzola or with porcini and truffle oil, while wide pappardelle are paired with walnuts and gorgonzola cream. Baked dishes include both a meat lasagne and a vegetable version layered with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, béchamel and cheese. Risotto provides another route through the menu, with versions featuring prawns, porcini, mixed seafood or vegetables. This range gives the restaurant a clear Italian focus while offering several different textures and sauces beyond the pizza section.

Ristorante Mont Néry is the restaurant of the Villa Fridau residence in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Its name goes back to the Locanda Mont Néry, which the family's great-uncles Erwin and Pina Monterin ran in the village in the 1950s. Today Marysa looks after the dining room and chef Boris Melon runs the kitchen. The cooking is Aosta Valley and Piedmontese, built on produce from close by: the valley's cured meats and cheeses, fresh pasta made in the house with a choice of sauces, and game served with polenta. The ice cream is homemade, in flavors that follow the season, and Boris and Marysa are glad to suggest a bottle from the wine list.

Auberge de la Cascade is a country restaurant in Polissal, in the commune of Saint-Félix-de-Lunel. Established in 1921 by the grandparents of the current owner, Laurence Bony, it grew from a small rural café into a restaurant with several dining spaces, a bar, and a room for gatherings. A stream and waterfall form part of its surroundings, while two car parks serve the property. The kitchen works mainly with fresh, local ingredients and prepares homemade dishes rooted in family recipes. Its specialities include calf's head, stockfish, kid goat with sorrel, and lamb sweetbreads in puff pastry. A soft chocolate cake is among the house desserts. Alongside these regional dishes, the restaurant offers dishes of the day and several menu formats, giving diners different ways to explore the cooking. The main dining room accommodates eighty people, while a separate air conditioned veranda seats twenty-five for private or family meals. Outside, a shaded terrace provides another setting for a meal or a pause beside the countryside. Groups can also arrange the dedicated function room, which has space for forty people and equipment including a microphone, sound system, and projector. It can be hired for meetings, gatherings, buffets, or dancing, with refreshments and a meal available as part of an arrangement. The house asks visitors to reserve their table by telephone. Its combination of regional food, family history, and flexible rooms makes the auberge a practical meeting place as well as a restaurant.

Les Cocottes en Folie

2882 Route de la Vallée des Douzes, 12330 Muret-le-Château

Les Cocottes en Folie is the restaurant of the Auberge du Château in Muret-le-Château. Its central idea is simple: a generous casserole placed on the table for people to share, recalling meals cooked at home and recipes passed down through families. Slow cooked dishes, fresh ingredients and local produce give the kitchen its direction. Laura and Yannick run the auberge as a family business. They describe discovering the village during a holiday and later leaving their commercial work in Montpellier to build a different life here. Yannick looks after the life of the house and its events, while Laura works both in the kitchen and in the dining room. That connection between cooking and welcoming guests is reflected in the restaurant's informal approach. The kitchen prepares its food on the premises, drawing on seasonal ingredients and nearby producers. Menus evolve with the produce available and the chef's inspiration. The restaurant welcomes people who are not staying at the inn, and its dining arrangements include quieter spaces as well as an emphasis on eating together. A terrace provides an outdoor setting, while the wider auberge includes a cafe and bar area. Birthdays, family meals and gatherings of friends can be arranged directly with the owners. The house also offers tailored menus for events. Vegetarian and gluten free meals can be prepared when dietary needs are explained during the reservation. Booking ahead is central to the way the restaurant works, making this a considered stop for a shared country meal rather than an extensive fixed menu.

Maison du vin du Marcillac

15 place de l'église, 12330 Marcillac-Vallon

+33672914698

Maison du vin du Marcillac is a wine and tapas bar on the church square in the historic centre of Marcillac-Vallon. Its focus is the wine of the surrounding valley and the independent growers whose different approaches give the local vineyards their variety. Wines are offered by the glass or bottle, making a visit an opportunity to explore individual producers alongside something to eat. The selection names estates including Domaine du Cros, Domaine Laurens, Domaine de Matha, Domaine du Mioula and Domaine Roquevert. The food follows the same local emphasis. Charcuterie boards include cured ham, while cheese boards bring together goat cheeses and Laguiole. Portions of aligot and bread from Marcillac provide other savoury choices. For something sweet, there are waffles, crêpes and ice cream from the Aubrac. Coffee, tea and bubble tea also appear on the menu, giving the bar an appeal beyond its wine selection. Visitors can contact the house directly to reserve a table. Behind the bar is a broader ambition to reconnect the village centre with its winegrowers. The Maison du Vin project centres on bringing four old red sandstone houses back into use, with plans linking wine, local history and the aromas of winemaking. That story gives the church square bar its context: a place to encounter the valley through its producers, its bottles and the regional foods served alongside them.

44 Tour de Ville, 12330 Marcillac-Vallon

Le Trublion is a traditional brasserie on Tour de Ville in the centre of Marcillac-Vallon. Owner Rémi puts local produce and straightforward homemade cooking at the heart of the place. Coffee and croissants are part of its identity alongside restaurant meals, and musical events give the brasserie another role as a gathering place in the village. Guests can contact the team about group meals or reserve a table by telephone. The menu changes with market deliveries and gives regional ingredients several different treatments. Salads include seasonal vegetables, breaded chicken with Parmesan, and crisp Pérail cheese with bacon. More substantial dishes include duck with blueberry sauce and lemon potatoes, pork with parsnip purée, and beef tartare cut by knife. Trout comes from the Moulin de Gourjan and is accompanied by vegetables of the moment. An entrecôte can be paired with Roquefort or pepper sauce. The burgers also draw on the surrounding countryside: both the cheddar version and the Aveyronnais use Aubrac beef, while the latter adds Roquefort sauce. A separate children's menu offers minced beef or nuggets with homemade fries and a dessert or ice cream. Homemade sweets include a reworked lemon tart, tiramisu, a soft centred chocolate cake, and brownies with caramelised peanuts. Waffles and hot drinks round out the selection. Between the changing dishes and the familiar brasserie choices, the kitchen leaves room for both a full meal and a simpler café visit.

Restaurant Cascade stands on Cour de la Filature in Salles-la-Source, close to the waterfall that gives the restaurant its name. Léna Bony and Mathieu Libourel took over the house in 2022, bringing their experience back to Aveyron and building a restaurant around local ingredients, seasonal cooking, and a welcoming atmosphere. The setting places a meal within the village itself, with its distinctive natural landmark nearby. Both owners have roots in the region. Léna grew up in a restaurant family and trained at the hospitality school in Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, where she met Mathieu. Originally from Millau and the son of a farmer, Mathieu developed an early interest in cooking and restaurant management. They subsequently worked together in Geneva before returning to Aveyron to manage Château de Labro. Chef Marine Guichou joined them after completing her studies in 2019 and continued with the team when they moved to Cascade. The restaurant's approach brings traditional regional cooking together with a more inventive treatment of the ingredients. Its main dining space is designed for relaxed meals with friends or family, with a modern and convivial atmosphere. A separate space, Le Toit Canaille, accommodates private celebrations and professional gatherings, including meetings, seminars, and receptions. Menus for these events are arranged around the group's needs. Visitors can contact the team directly to discuss a meal or a larger occasion. The combination of a village restaurant and a dedicated event space gives the house several ways to welcome guests.

Plazzet 15, 7503 Samedan

+41818524666

Restaurant Donatz occupies a Swiss pinewood dining room at Hotel Donatz on Plazzet, in the village centre of Samedan. Cornelia and René Donatz run the family business, whose history stretches back to 1974. They took over in 2008, bringing their shared background in professional cooking to a house that combines a restaurant, guest rooms and a separate wine bar. Both trained in the kitchen; René later worked aboard cruise ships, while Cornelia gained experience in hotels in Zermatt and Zurich. The restaurant's signature is Angus beef fillet Woranoff, with flambéing performed directly beside the table. That tableside preparation gives the meal a distinctive focal point, while the pinewood room provides a traditional Engadine setting. Homemade Angus beef steak tartare is another house recommendation. Fish, mussels, mushrooms and venison appear in the restaurant's account of its seasonal cooking, alongside specialties from Grisons and established Donatz dishes. The kitchen introduces new seasonal creations through a culinary calendar, so the selection changes rather than resting entirely on the signature beef dishes. This gives returning guests different ways to explore the restaurant, from regional preparations to seafood or game. A dedicated wine list accompanies the food, and wine forms a substantial part of the family's approach to hospitality. The railway station, village bus stops and Samedan's mineral baths are nearby. Tables can be reserved through the restaurant's online booking service or by contacting the hotel directly.

Via Traunter Plazzas 7, 7500 St. Moritz

Restaurant Hauser brings a family confectionery tradition into the centre of St. Moritz. The business arrived here in 1955, when Albert Hauser opened a cafe, restaurant and small hotel after the family's earlier years in Zurich. Today Nina and Nik Hauser carry that history forward, with a restaurant and pastry kitchen sharing the same address on Via Traunter Plazzas. The confectionery remains an important part of the experience, alongside savory cooking and regional ingredients. The restaurant welcomes townspeople as well as hotel guests, and its terrace provides an outdoor setting for a meal. One of the house specialities is Piöda, a hot stone brought to the table so diners can cook their own choice of meat, fish and vegetables. It makes the preparation part of the meal and gives everyone control over how their food is cooked. The kitchen also prepares Grisons specialities and vegetarian dishes. Cakes, patisserie and seasonal sweets come from the house confectionery, with Engadine walnut cake among its familiar products. Behind the food is a family story spanning four generations, from the original bakery and confectionery to the present hotel and restaurant. Architect Robert Obrist gave the building its distinctive form in 1970, placing the new structure on pillars above the existing premises. The family's more recent work includes a permaculture garden in Samedan, another expression of its interest in the ingredients and landscape of the Engadine.

La Piruetta combines an Italian restaurant, pizzeria and bar with the relaxed surroundings of Celerina's Center da Sport. Opened in 2001, it is built around an informal atmosphere where a meal can fit naturally into time spent outdoors. The large veranda looks toward the Engadine mountains, while the neighboring sports facilities give the setting a different character as the seasons change. Skating and curling belong to winter; tennis and the playground shape the warmer months. Italian cooking anchors the menu, with Mediterranean influences, Valtellina specialities and game adding variety. Homemade pasta includes pizzoccheri with cheese, potatoes, cabbage, butter and sage, as well as ricotta and spinach ravioli. Other choices range from mushroom tagliatelle to spicy penne, alongside salads, meat and fish dishes. The pizza selection includes familiar combinations and a Valtellinese version with bresaola and porcini mushrooms. There are also flame pies, including one with gorgonzola and walnuts. Desserts and ice cream are made in house. Walnut cake, apple strudel and chocolate cake sit alongside ice cream cups and affogato, making the restaurant an option for something sweet as well as a full meal. Families are explicitly welcomed, with outdoor activities close enough for parents to watch their children from the terrace. Dogs are welcome both inside and outside. Takeaway includes pizza, ice cream and the restaurant menu, and tables can be reserved ahead for busier periods.
