Restaurant Die Kirche

Restaurant Die Kirche occupies a former church in Magdeburg's Prester district. The building dates from 1832, when it replaced an older medieval church, and its tower was modelled on those of Magdeburg Cathedral. Its later history is unusually varied: religious use ended in 1983, the building served as a church district works depot, and a conversion in 1997 brought architecture, art and gastronomy together. Katrin and Jens Rieffenberg have run the restaurant since 2007.

The dining offer combines seasonal cooking, creative dishes and familiar classics. The house presents a selection spanning starters, meat, pasta and vegetarian dishes, alongside a separate children's menu. For a more structured occasion, it offers menus and candlelit dinners. The former church interior gives these meals a setting with a history that remains part of the restaurant's character.

Brunch is another part of the programme, offered on selected Sundays. It brings together a breakfast buffet of homemade specialities, warm dishes, desserts and coffee served in pots. The garden and terrace provide outdoor space, although brunch reservations do not extend to those areas.

Private celebrations are a substantial part of the restaurant's work. Weddings, drinks receptions, birthdays, club outings, family occasions and company events can be arranged with the team. There are also themed evenings and murder mystery dinners. Table requests can be made through the reservation form, with telephone contact available for shorter notice arrangements. This combination of an adapted historic building, seasonal food and planned events gives Die Kirche a distinct identity beyond an ordinary neighbourhood dining room.
