Avinguda de s'Albufera 16, Ses Fotges, 07440 Playa de Muro
Restaurante Boy has been part of Playa de Muro since 1978, with the Torrens Bauza family behind a restaurant centred on wood-fired grilling. On Avinguda de s'Albufera in Ses Fotges, it offers a broad menu that works for a group whose tastes range from a substantial steak to pizza or a lighter fish dish. The meat selection is the main focus. The restaurant lists Spanish beef alongside Irish and Australian Angus and beef from Nebraska, with large cuts such as T-bone and tomahawk intended for sharing. Dry ageing is part of the house's approach to selected beef. Staff can explain the available cuts and portions, which is useful when choosing between an individual steak and a shared platter. There are several ways to build a different meal. Starters include mussels, battered squid, Padrón peppers, Manchego and Iberian ham. Pizza choices run from a simple cheese-and-tomato Margarita to vegetable and seafood versions; pasta, grilled vegetables and pamboli add more options. The children's menu and play area are practical details for families, while the larger menu means everyone can order at their own pace and according to appetite. Boy also has a wine selection and an adjoining cocktail-bar offering for continuing the evening. Reserve directly, especially if you want a larger table or a particular sharing cut. Opening days and Sunday service should be checked with the restaurant, as seasonal schedules can differ. This is an established local option for a meal built around the grill without requiring every diner to choose meat.

Casetes des Capellans 174, 07420 Playa de Muro
Can Gavella is a beachfront restaurant in Ses Casetes des Capellans, at the Can Picafort end of Playa de Muro. Tables on the sand and a menu built around rice dishes make it a natural place to plan a long lunch by the bay. The restaurant traces its paella to a family recipe passed between generations. The rice specialities are prepared to order for at least two diners. Choose between mixed paella, seafood paella and seafood fideuà; the mixed version brings together meat and shellfish, while the seafood preparations include cuttlefish, prawns and mussels. Mention your preferred dish when booking so the kitchen can advise on ordering and timing. There is plenty to consider before the rice arrives. The published menu includes grilled scallops, steamed mussels, clams with white wine, fried baby squid and grilled octopus. Salads, grilled fish, pumpkin ravioli and burgers broaden the choice for a table with different tastes. For a local finish, look for gató with almond ice cream or the Cardinal de Lloseta among the desserts available that day. The kitchen schedule changes with the season: spring and autumn focus on lunch, while the main summer months also list an evening service. Book ahead and check the times for your date. Drivers should follow the signed parking arrangements around Ses Casetes des Capellans, where access restrictions apply during part of summer. The restaurant also welcomes dogs on its terrace and asks larger groups to arrange their visit directly.

Ses Casetes des Capellans, 07440 Playa de Muro
Ponderosa Beach serves contemporary Mediterranean food directly on the sand at Ses Casetes des Capellans, on Playa de Muro. The business dates to 1967 and remains connected to the family who established it. Its appeal is the combination of a relaxed beach setting with a menu that gives substantial attention to rice, seafood and Mallorcan ingredients. The current rice selection uses bomba rice from Molino Roca and is designed for at least two people. Options include cuttlefish with red prawns, black rice with squid, a peeled-shellfish señorito rice and a preparation with Mallorcan vegetables. The Barroco rice combines scallops, red prawns, langoustines, cuttlefish and mussels. Ask about the dishes available on your chosen date before deciding how to share the meal. The starters show a broader range of influences. Mediterranean squid comes with orange-and-almond allioli; mussels are cooked with ginger, coconut milk and yellow chilli; croaker ceviche uses avocado and coconut. Grilled bream and John Dory provide alternatives to rice, while the menu also includes beef, slow-cooked pork and vegetable dishes. Allergen symbols and some adapted options are published, though specific requirements should still be discussed with the team. Reserve through the restaurant's own booking system and confirm the season's service dates. Ponderosa is particularly suited to making lunch part of a beach day, with time to enjoy the shoreline before or after eating. The wine and cocktail lists give further choices for those settling in for a leisurely meal by the water.

Carretera Artà–Port d'Alcúdia, km 26.3, 07440 Playa de Muro
Figueret Restaurant brings traditional Mallorcan cooking and a broad Mediterranean menu to the road through Playa de Muro. The name comes from the family's longstanding Mallorcan nickname. Jaume and Maria began the current Figueret story with a small café in Port d'Alcúdia in 2010, later developing the restaurant's focus on lunch and dinner. The menu gives a clear place to island recipes. Cod à la mallorquina is baked with vegetables, potatoes, tomato, garlic, pine nuts and raisins; another cod preparation combines allioli, sobrasada and honey. Vegetable frit mallorquí, stuffed aubergines and stuffed courgettes offer further ways to explore the kitchen's regional side. Grilled fish and meat sit alongside these dishes rather than replacing them. Seafood is another strong thread, from garlic prawns and clams in Albariño to the house mixed seafood platter. Rice dishes and fideuà are generally offered for at least two diners, with seafood, black-ink, mixed-meat-and-seafood and vegetable versions. The ciega preparations have bones and shells removed, a useful distinction to understand when choosing a shared pan. Desserts include Mallorcan gató with almond ice cream and ensaïmada pudding. Parking is available in front of the restaurant, and tables can be reserved through its own website. Discuss your choice of rice, group size and dietary needs when arranging the visit. The combination of recognisable island dishes, seafood and a substantial vegetarian selection makes Figueret useful for a mixed group wanting a full meal in the Playa de Muro area.

Carrer Costa i Llobera 26, baixos, 07458 Can Picafort
Petit Figueret is the younger generation of the Figueret family's restaurant story, with a dedicated burger restaurant on Carrer Costa i Llobera in Can Picafort. The family describes an informal approach built around carefully selected meat, patties formed in the restaurant and artisan bread. It offers a different sort of evening meal from the seafood and rice restaurants along this stretch of coast. The burgers have individual combinations that make the menu worth reading closely. Vola brings together brie, cheddar, caramelised onion, bacon and barbecue sauce; Camins uses goat's cheese, rocket and bacon jam. Ai, Yoko adds mushrooms, raclette and truffle mayonnaise, while Foc al cos is the option to consider if you like a chilli-based sauce. Check the current selection when ordering, as featured burgers can change. Chicken and plant-based choices broaden the range. The published menu includes a crispy chicken burger and an Oxigen burger made with a plant-based patty, vegan cheese and sauce. Sides include ordinary or sweet-potato fries, nachos and chicken wings, and there are smaller children's meals. Cheesecakes and a dark-chocolate brownie provide a substantial finish if you still have room. Reserve the Can Picafort location through its official booking page, which currently offers dinner service. The restaurant says its limited space prevents group reservations, so respect the booking limits rather than arriving with an unannounced large party. Takeaway ordering is also available through the website. This is a convenient choice for a casual burger evening while staying around Can Picafort and Playa de Muro.

Dr.-Julius-Leber-Str. 69, 23552 Lübeck
Johanna Berger's restaurant occupies an old town address on Dr.-Julius-Leber-Straße, with dining rooms inside the historic building and seating in a quiet courtyard. Berger is both the owner and a chef, and her cooking draws on experience gained in southern France, London, the North Sea region and Lübeck. She has been serving food in her namesake restaurant since 2015. Jamel Jerome Poerschke joined the kitchen in May 2024, bringing a particular interest in reinterpreting familiar regional cooking. Their shared approach gives guests a choice between an à la carte meal and a surprise menu shaped by the two cooks' different backgrounds. Seasonal ingredients and preparations made in the kitchen guide the selection. The à la carte offering includes tomatoes with burrata and olive oil, beef carpaccio with truffle mayonnaise and caviar, and ceviche with pickled onion and sesame. Vegetarian main courses include saffron risotto with fennel and roasted pepper, alongside a vegetable dish called Waldspaziergang, served with mushroom jus. Fish appears both as a changing catch and as pikeperch accompanied by saffron risotto and fennel. Meat choices include a changing cut and beef tenderloin with popcorn and jus. Dessert can be followed or replaced by a trio of cheeses with jelly and dark bread. The menu varies with what suppliers can provide, so individual dishes may change. Wine pairings accompany the surprise menus, while the drinks selection also includes a house cocktail. Tables can be reserved online, by phone or by email. The team also welcomes enquiries about private events, rooms and specially arranged menus.

An der Obertrave 6, 23552 Lübeck

Kartoffelspeicher builds its menu around baked potatoes at An der Obertrave 6 in Lübeck. The restaurant is run by Jan Stobbe and Muhammad Fahad, and its cooking brings together German, European and international influences. Rather than treating the potato simply as a side dish, the menu gives it the central role and offers several distinct groups of preparations. Vegetarian baked potatoes form an especially broad section. Named choices include Toscana, Popeye, Aphrodite, La Patata, Ali Baba and Geisser Herdöpfel. The meat section takes a different direction with Tandoori Chicken, Obelix, Tropicana and Turkish Delight. Fish appears in another section, with Tonno and Surf'n Turf among the named options. The range allows diners to compare vegetable, meat and fish preparations within the restaurant's focused potato theme. Vegan and gluten free options are also part of the offer, alongside vegetarian dishes. The restaurant presents itself as a place for lunch, dinner or drinks, and describes a selection extending from starters through to dessert. Its international approach is reflected in the variety of dish names and the separate menu sections, giving the same main ingredient several different culinary directions. Tables are reserved by telephone, with the restaurant handling booking requests directly. This straightforward arrangement suits guests who want to contact the people at the venue before their visit. For a meal centred on baked potatoes, Kartoffelspeicher provides a clearly defined alternative to a broad, conventional restaurant menu, with plant based choices as well as meat and fish.

Alfstraße 36, 23552 Lübeck
Brauberger zu Lübeck brings a working brewery and a traditional restaurant together on Alfstraße in the old town. Copper brewing equipment occupies the dining room, while the protected Gambrinus cellar preserves a much older layer of the building. The house dates its Romanesque cellar to 1225. Guests can sit on the brewing deck, on the gallery, downstairs in the cellar or outside in the beer garden. These different spaces give the restaurant several distinct settings within the same address. The brewery makes an unfiltered Zwickel beer alongside Oceanflower, a dry hopped pilsner, Revenge India Pale Ale and Baltic Dutchman, a wheat beer flavored with coriander seed and dried orange peel. The kitchen follows the substantial tradition of German brewery food. Its Brauerschmaus combines roast pork, smoked pork loin and sausage with fried Holstein potatoes and sauerkraut. Schnitzels come in several preparations, including a version breaded with brewing malt. Other dishes include grilled pork knuckle and veal meatballs with caper sauce, mashed potatoes and beetroot salad. Fish choices include pollock with mustard sauce, a mixed fish platter and herring with fried potatoes. There are also explicitly vegetarian and vegan dishes, including vegetable lasagna and chili without meat. Smaller appetites can choose soup, salads or gratinated goat cheese with beetroot, rocket and pine nuts. A separate children's section offers schnitzel, pollock and chicken with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Desserts include red berry compote, apple strudel and Kaiserschmarrn. For parties of six or more, the team offers meal arrangements discussed directly with the restaurant.

Beckergrube 71, 23552 Lübeck
Wullenwever is Roy Petermann's restaurant in a merchant's house dating from 1585 on Beckergrube. The interior and sheltered courtyard provide two different settings for the same approach to cooking: light, modern dishes with regional roots and Mediterranean and maritime influences. Canvas covers the courtyard, which the restaurant describes as available for much of the year. Menus change every three weeks, allowing the kitchen to shift its emphasis with the season. The selection combines fish, shellfish, meat and vegetables rather than following a single ingredient throughout. One published menu pairs warm smoked pepper salmon with pumpkin, langoustine with carrot, orange and tarragon, and a lighter interpretation of borscht. Main courses include halibut with spinach and mustard Champagne beurre blanc or grilled onglet with autumn vegetables and a red wine and shallot jus. An apple dessert or a selection of matured cheeses completes that sequence. Guests can choose a three course selection or the full five course menu. A seven course surprise menu is available for the whole table by advance order, and a vegetarian menu can also be ordered ahead. Wine receives similarly close attention. The cellar includes German Riesling, Chardonnay and red wines from Europe and overseas, with a substantial selection in half bottles. Roy and Manuela Petermann advise on a complete pairing or an individual glass according to the meal and personal taste. Direct reservations allow guests to discuss their plans with the restaurant, including arrangements for a larger group.

Breite Straße 2, 23552 Lübeck
Schiffergesellschaft brings Lübeck's seafaring past into a restaurant on Breite Straße. Its former guildhall was a meeting place for captains and merchants, and the historic hall still gives the meal its distinctive setting. Long communal benches and suspended ship models make the maritime connection tangible. Alongside the main hall are smaller rooms, including the Hanse-Lübeck-Zimmer, Kapitäns-Zimmer and Kapitäns-Salon, offering different settings within the same historic house. The kitchen combines northern German classics with international dishes and contemporary creations. Seasonal ingredients and local purchasing are central to its approach, so the cooking looks beyond the building's history while retaining a regional foundation. Wines and spirits form part of the drinks selection. The restaurant welcomes business diners, couples, local families and larger parties, continuing the building's longstanding role as a place to gather. Outdoors, the planted courtyard garden provides another place to sit. Known as the Sonnendeck, it offers a quieter setting away from the large hall. Company celebrations, family occasions and business meals are also part of the restaurant's offer, with reservations available by telephone or email. The society behind the house began as the Saint Nicholas Brotherhood in 1401. It acquired and expanded the premises during the sixteenth century, and the hall emerged from those building works. After compulsory guild membership ended in 1866, parts of the house were opened to the public as a restaurant. That transition explains the unusual combination visitors encounter today: a working dining room inside a building whose identity remains closely bound to Lübeck's sailors.
Ellerhoop · Cakes and pastries · Cafe · Ice cream
Thiensen 4, 25373 Ellerhoop
The Dielen-Café occupies the Münsterhof at the Arboretum Ellerhoop in Thiensen, bringing coffee and cake into the setting of a historic farmstead and botanical garden. It serves visitors exploring the grounds as well as people coming from outside the park. Cakes, tortes and specialty coffees form the core of the offer, accompanied by other drinks, ice cream and small savory dishes. There is a terrace beside the café, giving a coffee stop an outdoor setting within the garden complex. The surrounding arboretum combines tree collections with themed planting, a traditional cottage garden and a lake known for its lotus flowers. Its changing displays give visitors different reasons to return throughout the growing season. The café also accommodates organized visits and private gatherings. Groups can arrange light lunches or coffee and cake, while birthday parties and funeral gatherings can be catered for with a shared coffee table. Breakfast can be arranged for groups of at least twenty people. These offers are coordinated through the arboretum office, which asks organizers to make contact by email. The café is usable by wheelchair visitors, and an accessible toilet is located beside it in the Münsterhof. Free parking is available at the entrance, with bicycle stands also provided for people arriving on two wheels. Operated within the arboretum's charitable association, the café connects a straightforward refreshment stop with a much larger landscape of horticulture, tree study and garden design.
Barmstedt · Italian · Pizza · Cakes and pastries
Seestraße 10, 25355 Barmstedt
Restaurant Seegarten stands beside the Rantzauer See in Barmstedt, with a bright conservatory and a spacious terrace overlooking the water. It belongs to the hotel of the same name, but its restaurant, café offer and bar give it several different roles around the lake. A meal can center on Italian dishes, while coffee and a changing selection of cakes provide a lighter reason to stop. The menu ranges from bruschetta, minestrone and antipasti to pasta and pizza. Spaghetti with anchovies, capers and olives appears alongside gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce and penne with vegetables. Pizza choices include a simple margherita, a vegetable version and combinations with seafood or cured ham. This breadth makes the restaurant useful for a table whose members want different kinds of dishes. Coffee is accompanied by a cake and torte buffet, with tea available as an alternative. The drinks selection also includes wine, beer and cocktails, and the hotel bar offers another setting for meeting friends or family. A separate lunch offer adds variety alongside the main menu. Guests can reserve a table by telephone, and the restaurant offers its food for collection after a phone order. Celebrations are another part of the business, supported by menu and buffet arrangements. The combination of conservatory seating and the lakeside terrace makes the setting a defining part of Seegarten, whether the visit is built around a full meal or a quieter coffee break.

Schulstraße 9, 25355 Barmstedt
Das Webers is a bar and restaurant on Schulstraße in Barmstedt, led by Patrick Weber and built around familiar cooking, drinks and private celebrations. Its kitchen combines regular house dishes with seasonal specialties, including asparagus, matjes herring, chanterelles, beef roulades, mashed rutabaga and roast goose. The result is a distinctly northern German repertoire with different dishes coming into focus as ingredients change through the year. Schnitzel is one of the house's particular interests. The restaurant describes preparing it from lean pork loin, tenderizing the meat and coating it with flour, eggs from Bokel and finely grated breadcrumbs before frying it in rapeseed oil. Guests can eat in the restaurant or on a summer terrace surrounded by greenery. At the bar, the choice runs from beer specialties and selected wines to hot drinks, soft drinks, spirits and long drinks. Celebrations occupy a substantial place in the business. Rooms accommodate gatherings of twenty to eighty people and larger parties by arrangement, with menus or buffets planned around the occasion. Birthdays, weddings and confirmations are among the events the team caters for. The kitchen also welcomes advance requests for dishes beyond its regular selection. Catering extends the service to homes and business premises, from decorated sandwiches to complete buffets. Meetings, seminars and presentations can also be arranged with catering and technical equipment. For a visitor, the appeal lies in this combination of a local restaurant, a place for drinks and a kitchen accustomed to bringing groups together. Payment is in cash.

Kuhberg 4-6, 25355 Barmstedt
Zum alten Markt on Kuhberg combines a traditional Barmstedt restaurant with guest rooms and an extensive catering business. North German home cooking sits alongside international dishes, and the kitchen emphasizes choosing regional ingredients wherever possible. The dining room seats fifty-five people, with another thirty places on the terrace when the weather suits eating outdoors. Fish is a substantial part of the menu. Choices include pan-fried plaice, redfish, pikeperch and a mixed fish plate, together with Hamburg-style pannfisch. Meat dishes follow similarly familiar lines: schnitzel, cordon bleu, rump steak, roast beef and calf's liver with onions and apple. Potato accompaniments recur throughout, from fried potatoes to croquettes and rösti. Vegetarian diners have a vegetable patty and a vegetable bake among the alternatives. Smaller appetites are covered by soups, salads and lighter plates, while the children's section includes small schnitzel, chicken nuggets and a hamburger. Desserts include homemade chocolate mousse, pancakes and mascarpone cream, as well as ice cream. A changing lunch selection complements the main menu. The restaurant also plans birthdays, anniversaries, company gatherings and other celebrations, discussing menus or buffets with organizers. Its catering service extends to garden parties, receptions and events at outside venues, with equipment and service arrangements available. Guest rooms in the same property add an accommodation option for people attending a celebration. Together, these services give the house a role beyond an ordinary restaurant table, while its food remains rooted in recognizable regional favorites.

Mon–Sun 07:30–22:00
Brasserie 14 is the restaurant at De Hoeve van Nunspeet on Elspeterweg. It welcomes both people staying at the hotel and visitors coming specifically to eat, so an overnight stay is not required. The kitchen works with fresh ingredients and changes its dishes with the seasons. Coffee, lunch, wine and dinner are all part of the brasserie's offer, allowing a visit to be as simple as a drink or as substantial as a full meal. The lunch selection combines familiar Dutch dishes with salads and more substantial plates. Sandwiches come on white or brown bread, with fillings including beef carpaccio with basil pesto, rocket and Grana Padano, or smoked salmon with wasabi cream and pickled onion. There are toasted sandwiches, egg dishes and croquettes, alongside a goat cheese salad with honey and walnuts. For a larger lunch, the menu includes fish and chips with remoulade, chicken thigh satay and steak with herb butter. A vegetarian lunch board brings together soup, goat cheese, honey, a fried egg and an oyster mushroom croquette. These choices make the menu useful for a table where some people want a sandwich and others want a cooked plate. Reservations are encouraged. When booking, guests can give the number of diners and any dietary wishes, and an allergen menu is provided alongside the food menus. The hotel setting places the brasserie within a wider base for exploring the Veluwe.

Restaurant Joris is a family restaurant on Elspeterweg in Nunspeet, close to the railway and bus station. The business has welcomed guests since 1979, and its approach centres on sociable meals, attentive service and a broad menu. Lunch, dinner and a smaller bite or drink are all part of the offer, making it a useful meeting place for people with different appetites. Its location also suits a meal before or after travelling by public transport. The station is about a hundred metres away, while the shops in the centre can be reached on foot. Walking and cycling routes run through the surrounding area, and the restaurant suggests using it as a starting point for an outing. Guests arriving by car have the restaurant's own free parking available. Electric bicycle charging points are provided for customers purchasing something at the restaurant. Families have a separate children's playroom, giving younger visitors a space of their own during a visit. The menu is divided into a main selection, lunches and desserts, so a visit can be planned around a full meal or something lighter. Beregoed is a restaurant on Dorpsstraat in the centre of Nunspeet, combining lunch, dinner and drinks in a setting designed to feel like a living room. The current team took over in 2018 and gradually reshaped the business, renewing the interior and creating places to eat both inside and outside. There is also room for larger groups, giving it a role beyond a quick individual lunch. The kitchen puts fresh ingredients at the centre of its approach. Many products are collected each morning, and the bread comes from a local market baker. Meat is supplied by butcher R. van der Vlis in nearby Ermelo. Alongside the regular menu, the cooks prepare specials influenced by the season, the weather and their own ideas, so the selection has a changing element as well as familiar choices. The house's changing dinner special has included half a chicken with apple sauce, fries and salad, while the chef's soup selection has featured curry soup with warm bread rolls and butter. These are straightforward combinations that fit the restaurant's relaxed approach to eating. The menu and drinks selection support both a meal and a shorter stop in town. Guests can sit indoors or use the outside seating, and the central address makes the restaurant convenient to combine with a visit to the surrounding shops. Beregoed also has a menu arrangement for guests staying at B&B De Droomhoeve.

Restaurant Jing brings Japanese sushi, Chinese dishes and Indonesian influences together at Harderwijkerweg in Nunspeet. The sushi selection ranges from salmon, tuna and prawn nigiri to cucumber and avocado maki. Other rolls combine ingredients such as omelette and cheese, crispy chicken, or cucumber, tofu and avocado. Breakfast is available to outside visitors as well as hotel guests, with reservations requested. The buffet includes homemade jams, Bircher muesli, fruit and vegetables, salmon, cheese and cold cuts, with scrambled eggs and bacon from the kitchen. Coffee, selected teas and freshly squeezed orange juice complete the offer. Views toward the lake are part of the breakfast setting. The library provides an intimate setting for up to twenty guests. The Alte-Mühle retains brick walls and mill machinery and accommodates up to thirty-four, while the adjoining Remise has glass doors opening toward the lake and space for seventy-two. A white lakeside pavilion dating from 1914 offers a larger setting with a veranda and terrace. Mathieu took over the restaurant in 2024 and gives its cooking a traditional foundation, using fresh, local and seasonal produce when supplies allow. The address combines a seated restaurant meal with tapas and occasional themed evenings. The Retour du Marché menu changes weekly and is served at weekday lunchtimes. It offers a starter, main course and dessert, while a separate blackboard selection gives further choices. The published tapas menu includes Serrano ham, duck croquettes, baked mussels, tuna tataki and baby squid with parsley and garlic. These smaller dishes make it possible to start with several flavours before choosing a main course. Examples on the restaurant's published main menu include veal with porcini cream, duck breast with thyme and honey, and cod with porcini sabayon. A vegetarian plate changes with the kitchen's current selection. Orange cheesecake, frozen nougat and strawberry pavlova appear among the desserts. Check the latest blackboard when you arrive, since the market-led approach means individual dishes can change. Reservations are taken directly by telephone. The published weekly timetable runs from Tuesday to Saturday, with separate lunch and evening periods; Monday and Sunday are closed. Ask about the current programme if you would like to combine dinner with one of the themed evenings, and mention dietary requirements when booking. This is a seasonal address: its published 2026 season runs from May into September, so contact the restaurant before planning a visit at another time of year. During the season, the flower-filled garden provides a setting for an aperitif, followed by dinner under the former covered playground. The restaurant is relatively small, with around 25 covers. It suits an evening when you want to sit down for food prepared to order and enjoy the garden surroundings, rather than simply make a quick stop between destinations. The kitchen works with fresh and local ingredients for homemade dishes. Its own food photographs illustrate garden tomatoes and harvests, smoked fish, prawns, scallops, pissaladière and lemon tart. These examples show the range of its cooking, while the actual choice depends on the current menu. Ask what is available when booking, especially if one of those ingredients is central to your plans. Sandrine Duvernois is the named operator, and reservations can be made by telephone. The restaurant lists a children's corner, accessible facilities, parking and Wi-Fi, and can discuss private celebrations. Evening meals and Sunday lunch form the published seasonal pattern. Check the opening dates, kitchen hours and arrangements for a larger party directly; the surrounding garden and small dining capacity make advance planning worthwhile.

16 Grand Rue, 16320 Villebois-Lavalette
Chez Ninie is a pizzeria and restaurant on Grand Rue in Villebois-Lavalette, offering a straightforward choice of Italian and Mediterranean dishes. It works for a sit-down meal in the village or a takeaway to bring back after a day out. Pizza is a central part of the offering, but it is not the only reason to stop here. The selection also includes salads, grilled dishes and fresh pasta, with tagliatelle specifically among the restaurant's specialities. Vegetarian choices are available, and ice cream offers a simple way to finish. This range is useful when one person wants pizza while someone else prefers pasta or a plate from the grill. Ask about the current selection when ordering, particularly if you have a dietary requirement. There is an indoor dining room and a covered outdoor terrace. The restaurant lists 48 indoor covers and 22 terrace places, so the outdoor area is relatively small compared with the dining room. For a larger gathering, group menus can be arranged on request; contact the team before bringing a party rather than relying on space being available. Takeaway service makes Chez Ninie a practical alternative when you prefer to eat at your accommodation. Dogs are welcome, and card and contactless payments are accepted. Opening days vary in summer, when Wednesday service is added to the usual schedule. Telephone ahead to check the kitchen hours and to arrange a group meal.

Balcón de María sits on the Avinguda del Rei Jaume I in Santa Ponsa and sells itself as one place with every experience in it. That is a fair description of the range: pinchos and tapas, what it calls crispy pizza, and a cocktail bar, under one roof. The distinction between pinchos and tapas is worth knowing before you order. A pincho is a single mouthful on a piece of bread, held together with a stick and eaten standing, counted at the end by the sticks left on the plate; a tapa is a small dish. Both are Spanish, and few places on a Mallorcan resort strip bother to serve the first properly. The house keeps separate cards for breakfast, for children, for desserts and for cocktails, and delivers through Glovo, Just Eat, Uber Eats and On The Road — four services, which in a resort town means it is used by people staying nearby as much as by people walking past. It opens every day at half past twelve and runs to eleven at night, to midnight on Friday and Saturday. It is part of the same Mallorcan group as Mercader del Mar, a few doors along the same avenue, so the two are an easy pair to alternate between over a week without eating the same thing twice. Santa Ponsa is about twenty minutes west of Palma, and this avenue is where most of its kitchens are — a walk of a few minutes from the beach and from most of the apartments. You will find Balcón de María at Avinguda del Rei Jaume I 97, 07180 Santa Ponsa.

3 Place des Marronniers, 16190 Salles-Lavalette
L'Envie Gourmande is a village restaurant and bar on Place des Marronniers in Salles-Lavalette. Stéphane and Carine run a place with a simple, homemade approach to food and an active role in village life. The cooking draws on local products, with French, Italian and Mediterranean influences and vegetarian choices among the restaurant's stated specialities. The setting changes with the season. A fireplace gives the dining room a focal point in colder weather, while the terrace looks out towards the Charente countryside. There are two dining rooms and a total of around 60 indoor covers, together with approximately 30 terrace places. It is a useful address for a meal in the village rather than a roadside stop. Food and social events add variety to the usual menu. The village calendar includes regional food evenings, music gatherings and activities at the bar. Past and announced themes include dishes from Alsace and Auvergne, so check the programme when you are staying nearby. These events have their own dates and should be booked directly where required. Families have practical facilities including a highchair, changing table, play area, board games and table football. Free private parking is available, dogs are welcome and takeaway service is offered. Opening hours change between the main summer period and the rest of the year. Call before travelling for dinner, or to ask what is cooking and whether a music or themed evening is scheduled during your stay.

Las Olas is a fish restaurant on the Carrer de Ramon de Montcada, on the Costa de la Calma side of Santa Ponsa. Its own line for what it does is four words long and says everything: from the sea to the plate. The house publishes its menu as a document in four languages — Spanish, English, German and French — which is unusual and useful. It means you can read what is being served before you sit down rather than working it out from a board, and seven pages of it suggests a kitchen with more than a resort card. One thing to plan around: it is closed on Mondays. The rest of the week it opens at half past twelve and runs through to midnight without a break, which covers a late lunch, an early dinner and a late one at the same address. Tables are booked through the restaurant's own link page. Costa de la Calma adjoins Santa Ponsa to the west and is the quieter half of the same stretch of coast — residential rather than resort, a few minutes' walk from the beach and away from the main avenue. The name means calm coast and it is not marketing: the bay here is sheltered from the tramuntana, the north wind that closes the beaches on the other side of the island, which is why this corner of Mallorca fills up first in spring and empties last in autumn. You will find Las Olas at Carrer de Ramon de Montcada 18, 07180 Costa de la Calma.

Mestiza sits on the Avinguda del Rei Jaume I in Santa Ponsa and does three things: burgers, prime steak, and thin, crisp American-style pizza. The full name says so outright, which saves anyone the trouble of guessing — this is not a Mallorcan kitchen and does not pretend to be one. The word mestiza means mixed, and the menu lives up to it. Alongside the main card there are separate lists for breakfast and for desserts, and the kitchen opens at eleven in the morning and runs to midnight, every day of the week without a closing day. Food is delivered through Just Eat. The site is kept in five languages — Spanish, English, German, French and Italian — which is an honest picture of who eats on this avenue in August. It belongs to the same Mallorcan group as Mercader del Mar and Balcón de María, a few doors along the same street, so the service and the standard are shared between them even though the kitchens are not. Santa Ponsa is about twenty minutes west of Palma by car, and the avenue runs from the bypass down towards the beach with most of the town's restaurants on it. Number 92 is towards the lower end, so this is a short walk from the sand rather than from the main road — worth knowing if you are coming back off the beach hungry. You will find Mestiza at Avinguda del Rei Jaume I 92, 07180 Santa Ponsa.

Paco's Restaurant stands on the Carrer de Ramon de Montcada in Costa de la Calma, on the western edge of Santa Ponsa. It is one of the best-reviewed places in this part of the coast, and it sits on the same short street as Las Olas — a residential road a few minutes back from the water rather than a stretch of the resort avenue. The restaurant had a website and the domain no longer resolves, so nothing is written here about the kitchen: we can point at no source for it, and guessing would be worse than saying nothing. The telephone number works and is the way to ask what is on and to book a table. The opening hours are the same every day of the week, half past twelve to half past ten at night, with no closing day and no afternoon break — which in a resort where a good part of the strip shuts between three and seven is the practical thing to know. Costa de la Calma runs west from Santa Ponsa towards Peguera. It is the quieter side: houses and apartments rather than hotels, and a walk of a few minutes to either the beach or the main avenue. You will find Paco's at Carrer de Ramon de Montcada 13, 07183 Costa de la Calma.

Mercader del Mar stands on the Avinguda del Rei Jaume I, the avenue that runs the length of Santa Ponsa on the south-west coast of Mallorca. The kitchen is Mediterranean and its single named speciality is paella — which on this island means the rice is the dish rather than a side, and it is worth ordering as one. Two practical points the house makes about itself. It is open all year, which is not ordinary in a resort town where a good part of the strip shuts from November to March. And the kitchen runs straight through, midday to midnight, every day of the week — so there is no dead afternoon between services, the thing that catches out anyone eating on a northern European clock. There are separate cards for children and for desserts, and the site is kept in Spanish, English and German, which tells you plainly who eats here. The restaurant belongs to a Mallorcan group that also runs Puerto Portals and several houses along this avenue, so the standard is consistent between them and the menus have a family resemblance. Santa Ponsa lies about twenty minutes west of Palma, on a sheltered bay with a sand beach, and the avenue is its main street. You will find Mercader del Mar at Avinguda del Rei Jaume I 103, 07180 Santa Ponsa.
