Kaštil Slanica

Kaštil Slanica sits beside the Cetina River in a former salt-trading fort, a setting that connects the meal to the history of the Omiš hinterland. The Rogošić family opened the restaurant in 1998, drawing on family recipes and the ingredients of the coast, river and inland countryside. Its wine selection focuses on Dalmatian grape varieties.

Soparnik is a particularly relevant place to begin: the thin Poljica pie contains chard and onion and is finished with olive oil and garlic. Homemade bread baked beneath hot coals accompanies several starters, including the house bruschetta and fish pâté. Grandma Višnja's pašticada, served with homemade gnocchi, continues the family-recipe theme.

The river section of the menu offers trout, eel and frog legs, while the seafood dishes include black risotto, prawns with monkfish and fish baked with vegetables. There are also straightforward choices for younger diners, such as tomato pasta and breaded chicken. For a shared peka meal, choose among veal, lamb, octopus or chicken and order at least three hours ahead; the minimum is four portions.

You can arrive by road, with free guest parking, or discuss a river arrival with the team. This makes Kaštil Slanica a useful destination for an outing into the canyon as well as a restaurant visit. Reserve directly and mention any advance-order dish when arranging the table. Rožata or cheesecake with caramelised figs can bring the meal to a distinctly Dalmatian finish.
