Konoba Krculi

Konoba Krculi is a country restaurant in the village of Krculi near Žminj, with a history that the family traces to 1969. Its beginnings were tied to selling produce grown in the family's fields to people in coastal towns. Those contacts brought visitors inland to eat and spend time in the village. The original small tavern had a fireplace; the business later developed into a much larger venue while keeping traditional Istrian food and folklore at the centre of its identity. Today it can accommodate up to three hundred people and organises weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other celebrations. Lunches and dinners for groups are arranged in advance. The menu follows old recipes from central Istria. Prosciutto and sheep's or cow's cheese introduce a selection that includes Istrian minestrone with corn, potatoes and beans. Pasta takes several forms: potato gnocchi with veal or venison sauce, fuži with chicken goulash, and makaruni with prosciutto and mushrooms. Cooked cabbage, beef medallions in mushroom sauce and roast veal, pork or lamb provide other choices. Grilled sausages and beef are also offered. Fritule, the small sweet fried dough pieces, appear among the house specialties. Drinks include wine and traditional brandies, with plain grappa, mistletoe brandy and a honey version mentioned as welcomes. Music and folklore are part of the restaurant's account of its hospitality.
