Staigerwirt

Staigerwirt is the Gruber family’s inn on Marktstraße in St. Michael im Lungau, with chicken specialties at the center of its identity. The family sources its chickens exclusively from Styrian production through supplier Lugitsch. Alongside these specialties, the kitchen prepares home style dishes, changing lunch menus, Lungau favorites and international food. Regional ingredients and the family’s interest in hunting also shape the selection, with game dishes appearing as part of the culinary offer. The different places to sit give a visit several possible moods. There is a traditional dining room, a winter garden and an outdoor guest garden for enjoying the regional cooking in the open air. The small Ositzl bar takes its name from a hunter’s raised seat and offers a setting for a beer and conversation. Austrian wines accompany the food, providing another connection between the kitchen and producers closer to home. Special food weeks add variety beyond the regular selection. The family highlights Oktoberfest celebrations, goose and sheep specialties, and game weeks among these occasions. Staigerwirt also receives groups gathering for company functions, family meals, baptisms and first communion celebrations. It belongs to the same family business as the Waidblick accommodation, so the restaurant and guest rooms share one address rather than representing separate dining branches. For travelers based nearby, its combination of a recognizable chicken specialty, regional cooking and several dining spaces makes it a useful place to plan a meal together. Tables can be reserved directly with the inn.
