The east-coast islands such as the Perhentians and Tioman are best roughly from March to October and are affected by the northeast monsoon later in the year. Borneo generally suits the drier months of March to October. Because the climate is tropical, short rain showers can happen in any season.
How do I get around between the mainland and the islands?
Malaysia is well connected by domestic flights, which is the usual way to reach Sabah and Borneo, plus a good network of buses and trains on the peninsula. Langkawi and Penang are reachable by ferry as well as by air, while the smaller east-coast islands like the Perhentians and Tioman are served by boats from the mainland.
