Bonchidai Csárda brings the Hungarian riverside inn tradition to the Tisza waterfront in Tokaj. Its terrace looks towards the river, beside the boat landing and the beginning of the promenade. The setting makes lunch or dinner a natural part of exploring the waterfront, with the town's central parking area close by. The restaurant's story began in 1968; the rebuilt establishment reopened under the Bonchidai name in 2004.

Fish gives the menu much of its character. There are cauldrons of fisherman's soup with carp, catfish or a mixture of fish, alongside crisp fish pieces and smoked sterlet starters. For a substantial main, choices include grilled pikeperch, trout with fries and catfish paprikash served with curd-cheese noodles. Sharing platters combine several fish preparations, which can be useful when two people want to explore the kitchen's specialities together.

The selection also makes room for guests who prefer meat or a vegetarian meal. Pork schnitzel, roast knuckle, beef stew with Hungarian dumplings, breaded cheese and Camembert with blueberry accompany the fish dishes. Smaller diners have dedicated chicken, cheese and catfish choices. Desserts continue the Hungarian theme with Somlói sponge, chestnut purée and pancakes filled with curd cheese or plum jam.

Tokaj wines, including Furmint, Hárslevelű and Aszú, provide a local accompaniment. Tables can be requested online for a later day; for a same-day visit, telephone the restaurant directly.
