Lower Deck Seafood Restaurant stands on Douglas Row beside Portree harbour. Established in 2007 as a family run restaurant, it takes inspiration from the area's maritime past: the decor recalls the passenger ferries that once served these waters. The kitchen sources seafood from local fish merchants and prepares homemade meals with fish and shellfish at their centre. Its sample menu gives a detailed introduction to that approach, although individual dishes change with supplies and demand. Cullen skink combines smoked haddock, potatoes, onions and cream, with bread from MacKenzies in Portree. Mussels appear both as a starter and as a main course, accompanied by the chef's sauce of the day. Other examples include roast salmon with a whisky and honey glaze, smoked haddock and pea risotto, and grilled hake or pollock with a hazelnut and pesto crust. The restaurant's fish and chips comes with its own tartare sauce. Seafood salads offer another direction, with choices such as dressed crab, smoked mackerel or hot smoked salmon. The sample selection also includes beef cooked with Skye ale and a vegetarian dish of the day. Desserts draw on familiar Scottish ingredients, including cranachan with raspberries, cream, honey and toasted oatmeal, alongside cheese and oatcakes. Service operates on a walk-in basis, with tables allocated in arrival order. Neither individual diners nor groups can reserve, so a visit here is arranged by arriving at the restaurant rather than securing a table beforehand.
