Pronto Italian Restaurant is a neighbourhood restaurant and foodstore at The Colony on Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall, Johannesburg. Owner Natasha Maciel and her team have built the business around Italian cooking and a familiar local clientele, including families, friends and people working in the surrounding office districts. Pasta is a major part of the kitchen's identity, supported by a combination of locally sourced and imported ingredients. The restaurant has served the neighbourhood since 2004, with a separate lunch and dinner menu and direct table reservations. Its foodstore adds another dimension to a visit. Guests can browse Italian pantry ingredients, frozen prepared meals, baked goods and a selection of decorative items chosen by Natasha. Frozen sauces and other kitchen essentials make it possible to take part of the restaurant experience back to accommodation with a stove or oven. The deli is a walk-in shop, so choosing provisions can be an outing in its own right as well as an addition to a meal. Pronto also accepts collection orders and offers a home delivery service within a stated local radius, with the full restaurant menu additionally available through delivery partners. Guests arranging a delivery are contacted to agree the handover. This combination of restaurant, deli and takeaway options gives visitors flexibility, whether they want to sit down together or assemble a meal at home.
