Restaurante La Placeta

La Placeta occupies a traditional Canarian house beside Placeta de Borrero in central Santa Cruz de La Palma. Its entrance faces the small square, while the back belongs to the city's familiar waterfront balconies. The building brings together a terrace, an indoor bistro and restaurant rooms, giving visitors several ways to enjoy the same address. There is also a private room for company meals and celebrations. David Leiva Ruiz, originally from Valls in Tarragona, has directed the business since August 2007. His approach combines carefully chosen ingredients with attentive service, whether guests order a sandwich, share tapas or settle down for a larger meal. The terrace has its own selection of sandwiches, tapas and cakes, and diners can also choose meat, fish and vegetarian dishes from the restaurant menu. Inside the bistro, original walls and ceilings remain part of the setting. A wooden counter, stools, small tables and photographs of historic Santa Cruz give this room a different character from the open square. Two tables stand beside the windows, and the coffee selection includes the local coffee drink with liqueur. Among the restaurant's featured dishes are salmon and avocado tartare and beef tenderloin tips in a creamy cognac sauce with mushrooms and fries. A warm chocolate fondant served with ice cream is one of its signature desserts. The kitchen can adapt dishes for food intolerances and allergies. With both lighter food and a full restaurant menu available, La Placeta suits anything from a pause during a walk through town to a planned gathering with friends.
